That's great!
You need to be courageous to get what you really want out of life. Being
courageous is one of the cornerstones of every good decision. Winston
Churchill said that "Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the
quality which guarantees all others" and "Courage is what it takes to stand
up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen"
But what is courage really? One way to describe it is that courage is the
ability to do the "right" thing even though you may not feel like doing it.
Imagine for a moment that someone you love is standing by the side of a
road. There's a car veering off the road and it's about to hit them but they
don't see it. You're close enough that you can grab their arm and pull them
to safety. But in doing so, you will be putting yourself in danger. What
would you do? Because you love the person in danger, you would almost
certainly reach out and pull them to safety even though you are also afraid.
If you need to, take a few minutes to close your eyes and imagine yourself
in that type of situation until you feel courage welling up from within you. Do
you feel it?
Courage is more than a feeling. It's a way of life. Courage empowers you
to take positive actions in the face of adversity. But courage is not the same
as wisdom. Often there are many different positive actions you could take
in dealing with your situation. Being wise enough to choose the most
appropriate action for your particular situation requires something beyond
courage. In order to be able to think clearly, we need to be able to quiet the
shouting of our "negative" emotions so we can hear ourselves think! If
you're already feeling pretty courageous, I encourage you to explore the
idea of becoming a more "balanced" person.
But as always, the choice about where you go from here is up to you.
