Desire!

Desiring something better for yourself is basically a good thing.  From the
standpoint of physical survival, desire is necessary in order to live.  Without
a basic desire like hunger, you would never get up and find food to eat!  But
desire tends to make us go haywire when it becomes part of our thinking
patterns.  And in the end, desire alone can't get us what we want out of life.
When desire is linked to our imagination, we quickly get on a treadmill
leading to nowhere.  Because no matter what we have, it's never enough!
We can always imagine something "better" than what we have.  Also being
in a constant state of desire often leads to addiction which
really doesn't get
us what we want out of life.

The truth is that once our basic physical needs are met, we don't really
"need" anything else (other than unconditional love but that's another
subject).  In order to get what we want out of life, it's much better to be
courageous and do the "right" thing in each situation.  Being in a state of
desire is like being a puppet with desire pulling the strings.  It's much better
to learn how to be courageous than to become exhausted on the treadmill of
desire.  But if you aren't ready to think about becoming courageous, at least
start to think about how angry you are that you aren't getting what you want
out of life right now.

But as always, the choice about where you go from here is up to you.
