Fear!
It's OK to be afraid. Everyone is afraid from time to time; it's part of being
human. Most people in your type of situation tend to become afraid too so
you're certainly not alone. Even though you're feeling afraid, I want you to
keep chatting with me until you feel better. However, if you are in a
physically dangerous situation, please call 911 or your local emergency
response hotline immediately.
Fear is a natural instinct that keeps us physically safe. In the wild, the fight
or flight instinct is necessary for survival. But in the modern world, fear is
like a roadblock that keeps us from getting what we want out of life. In the
modern world, the main thing to fear is fear itself!
In order to run away from fear, you need to run towards something that will
keep your mind relatively safe from fearful thoughts. Running towards
becoming courageous is one of the quickest ways to begin thinking safer
thoughts. John Wayne said that "Courage is being scared to death; and
saddling up anyway". Courage is the ability to do the "right" thing even when
we are afraid. So I encourage you to explore the idea of becoming more
courageous. But if you're not ready for that, are you at least ready to begin
thinking about wanting something better in your life than fear?
